This hotel has no "omotenashi"!!

This hotel situated at a good location: 10 mins by taxi to the main Tokyo train station, close to Tokyo subway and to Tcat, bus service to Narita airport. However the staff at the front desk was not helpful and very rude. They refused to help us with anything by saying "it's not in the rule". We arrived one hour early to supposedly checkin time at 3 PM, we asked for check in half hour early after tired long travel ... "not allowed, not in the rule". We need to check out next morning early to go to airport and although our fee included breakfast, we asked for a small packed sandwich half hour earlier before breakfast opens, again, with a rude manner: "not allowed, not in the rule..." We have traveled many places and staff often tried to go out of their way to help us, this hotel staff at front desk was not at all helpful. One should asks whether this hotel practices the "Omotenashi" custom.

Room - Decent size by Japanese standards. Neat and tidy. Bathroom - Clean and tidy. Reasonable size. Amenities had to be collected from the ground floor near the lifts. Reception - quite small with a couple of sofas. Staff could speak English fairly fluently and were quite helpful. Location - Quite good - Couple of minutes walk to the Metro station, Family Mart, Seven Eleven, Chemist and a small Supermarket. 15 minute walk to Tokyo train station. Several eating places within 10 minute walking distance.

On my 6th trip to Tokyo I wanted to stay in a new neighbourhood. Previously I have stayed in Chiyoda, Shinjuku and Shibuya. On a map this hotel looked like very close to the Tokyo Station, but the distance was actually 20 minutes by foot. My first mistake. Also, Kayabacho turned out to be very uninteresting part of Tokyo. My second mistake. The hotel itself was very basic, more like a cheap hostel, starting from the reception where there weren’t even one chair to sit down. And the room looked quite different in photos at their website. My third mistake. I arrived to the hotel about ten o’clock in the evening and couldn’t get anything to eat. The nearby restaurants were all closed, and finally I had to buy something from 7-Eleven. The hotel’s very basic restaurant served only breakfast which didn’t look very tasty. Who on Earth eats beef stew first thing in a morning? I guess it’s a matter of taste and expectations, but this hotel was way too modest and plain for me. After a few days I had had enough and moved to Shinjuku, to my old familiar four-star hotel. However, staying at two different locations on your vacation in Tokyo is not such a bad idea. It’s a good way to really get to know the neighbourhoods of this huge, amazing city.

I am reluctant to give one star ratings - and have not done so before - but on this occasion it is warranted. Myself and my partner stayed three nights at Hotel Villa Fontaine Kayabacho (Tokyo) from 20-23 September 2019. I have travelled extensively throughout parts of Asia more commonly associated with petty crime, but it was here at the Hotel Villa Fontaine Kayabacho that for the first time I had a valuable item removed from my luggage. Someone (either hotel staff or another guest) was able to access my room on the 22 September 2019 and take a brand new pair of Apple AirPods. I acknowledge the efforts of reception staff who asked cleaners about the missing item but prevention is a far better solution. I suggest that Hotel Villa Fontaine Kayabacho invest in valuable lock boxes for guests and perhaps improve vetting processes for staff. Nothing wrong with accommodation per se, but the experience left a negative impression of Hotel Villa Fontaine Kayabacho and soured my time in Tokyo.

I stayed 9 nights at this hotel in Tokyo on business. This hotel was just OK but I recommend you to stay max 3-4 nights. The longer period you stay, the less you like this hotel. Breakfast was OK, coffees were terrible. The location was fine, close to TCAT (bus terminal to the airport) and to the metro station. My biggest regret was that this hotel was not as clean like other hotels in Japan.
